Review: Acuvue Contact Lenses

Acuvue Contact Lenses

ACUVUE from Johnson & Johnson Vision Care, the world’s first disposable contact lenses, offer the convenience of two-week extended wear. That means that you put them in and throw them away 14 days later (which means you can sleep in them!) That’s because their thin design allow for high amounts of oxygen to be transmitted to the eye. And, since ACUVUE is made mostly of water, it works well with your natural eye fluids. Added features include UV-Blocking and an Inside-Out mark to make them easier to insert. Lens Type: 1-2 week disposable soft contacts Package Details: 6 visibly tinted UV blocking lenses immersed in buffered saline solution. Material and % of content: 42% polymer (etafilcon A) Water % of content: 58% Other info: These contacts are not designed to change eye color. The tint is designed to facilitate locating the contacts in solution. These contacts also contain an inside-out ‘AV indicator’ to help ensure proper application. What does getting a contact lens prescription involve?

First off, even though you have a specific prescription for eyeglasses, your soft lens contact prescription may not be the same. In fact, 9 out of 10 times it is not. With this said, it is not a good idea to do a eyeglass to contact lens prescription conversion (using the same prescription for contacts and eyeglasses). However, an eyeglass prescription can be used in assistance in order to create a more accurate soft lens contact prescription.

Creating a contact lens prescription is a lot harder work, and requires more adjustments than that of glasses. Depending on what type of lens you are prescribed it can be more or less complicated for your prescription. Hard contact lens fit the eye a bit different than a soft lens typically would, hard contact lens can also potentially break or cause other problems.

When getting your contact lens prescription created you can become very tired of going through the multiple lens adjustments. Typically your eye specialist will begin with a refraction, to determine the refractive error of your eyes, and the continue on with the other required measurements as well as the your cornea curve, tear film assessments, and fit the best soft lens contacts material for your eye. Typically a new eye exam is done the same day as well!

The Difference Between Contact Lens Cases

Truth be told, there are actually subtle differences to contact lens cases. Some travel cases have other features that others do not, such as miniature mirrors, lens removal tool holders, etc. Other contact lens cases feature images or animals, people, flags, or unique designs on them. Also, some contact lens cases even go as far as to shape the actual contact case in a unique design such as an animal head, or monument figure. Among the most durable and highly rated contact cases though is OptiPack, as well as Kabba Clip, which attaches a contact lens solution bottle to the case in order to keep everything organized and user friendly.

Although some cases look unique and interesting, they often times leak. Although it is not common, it all depends on the quality of seal they produce when screwed into place. Some contacts require specific cases, for example a gas permeable lens requires a contact len case to have texture on the inside of the contact holder, if not the contact lens can become stuck to the cap and break resulting in all sorts of problems.

An alternative to dry eye: Orthokeratology

Are special contacts and other things not treating your dry eye problems? If so, there may be another alternative you have never heard of… orthokeratology and corneal refractive therapy, which involve using a specially made gas permeable contact lense that help to re-shape and re-form  your cornea to fix your sight and allow you to see without glasses or contact lenses during the day.

What is cool about the lenses is that they only need to be worn at night, but this is not to say they aren’t important. In order to bring your cornea to its new shape though you MUST make sure to wear them everynight.
